About Janet Zeh

Janet Zeh Hi, I'm Janet. I have been creating art ever since I could hold a crayon in my fist as a small child. Nothing with a flat surface was safe from my scribbling! When there was no paper available, I drew on the wallpaper, windowsills and even climbed up near the ceiling to try to hide the evidence.

At age eight, I finally found an acceptable outlet for my desire to draw when my despairing parents booked lessons for me with a private tutor. Later, I studied art at Nazareth College of Rochester, Southern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island School of Design.

Before painting professionally, I was a part-time free-lance illustrator in pen and ink and digital graphics for eighteen years while raising three sons. In 1994 I began working in watercolor. I loved it so much, I left a public school teaching job and become an artist full-time. I have been painting for a living ever since.

In addition to watercolors, I paint in oils on canvas. I have created indoor and outdoor nature and garden murals for both the public and private sector and have designed and painted theatrical sets and backdrops for two full-length ballets. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection awarded me commissions to illustrate half a dozen botanical and geologic books for them.

I sell my watercolor and oil paintings online on my website, ZehOriginalArt.com, and my Etsy shop, JanetZeh.Etsy.com. Additionally, I do an occasional outdoor show and hold a yearly open studio. My hundreds of paintings (actually over a thousand) have been collected throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and Russia.

So how about when I'm not painting? Being a nature lover, I find inspiration and relaxation out-of-doors. I like to walk in the countryside or at the beach, climb a mountain or two, and do some gardening in my studio flower and vegetable gardens. Recently, I've begun raising a few chickens like both my grandmothers did before me!
